At The Editorial Nail, we believe that proper nail prep and care are essential for maintaining healthy nails. Whether your preferences range from salon visits to at-home press-on nails, foundation is always key.

Follow the steps below, in the order listed to minimize manipulation. Find the video HERE.

Step 1. Shape and File 💅

Let’s assume you’re starting with natural product-free nails. Trim if applicable, then file your nails to the desired shape in one direction to avoid fringes.

Filing in a back-and-forth motion may create micro grooves in your nails which can sometimes lead to little fringes, then cracks, and eventually breakage.

Step 2: Push It Real Good 🤭

Pushing back the nail fold exposes the dry pieces (cuticles) on the nail plate that cause lifting if not removed properly.

Step 3: Buff 💪

The higher the grit, the softer the file or buffer. 180-200 is a good sweet spot. If you are not a nail professional, avoid using a nail drill. The hand held buffer will give you more control and prevent over-filing which WILL weaken your nails.

Gently buff the nail plate, free edge, side walls, and “cuticle area” for a clean and smooth surface.

Buffing the nail after the previous steps as opposed to multiple times in between reduces over-buffing, which can also weaken the nails.

Step 4: Cleanse 🧹

Use your spooly or mascara wand to remove dust and debris, followed by cleansing with your provided nail wipe for a clean surface.

Step 5: Moisturize 💦🍊

Apply Juicy Cutie[cles] and hand cream to keep your nails and surrounding skin hydrated. This promotes healthy nail growth and prevents dry, brittle nails.
