If you’re a creative and freelancer in any industry, it’s safe to say 98.9% of the time, some of our employers just ain’t doing right by us.
The late payments and NET30+++ make it close to impossible to live decently. Being asked to work for free or close to nothing is mind boggling. We can’t pay rent or buy food with exposure or products. Brands shamelessly use our work in their publications without paying for usage. The constant haggling is exhausting, and let’s not forget about the contracts that aren’t honored. The list goes on like a cartoon scroll running off screen.
Many creatives are often too intimidated to speak out, out of the fear that they won’t get asked to work or they’ll be blacklisted. Well I say, without us, the industry can’t thrive. We’re the oil that keeps the machine running smoothly, we’re the solid links that provide the industry with amazing content. F* it, we’re the whole machine and a bag of chips.
I’ve come to learn that solely talking about this doesn’t get us anywhere, so I did what I know best. I got my creative juices flowing and wrote a song about.
It’s a bop, it slaps, you should listen. If you’re a creative, this is our anthem, if you’re a brand lol, listen up. We’re here to collect, and that’s on Sallie Mae.
