In case you didn’t know, Haitian Flag Day falls on Monday the 18th of May. And I couldn’t be more excited. Haiti is the first black nation to claim their freedom from the hands of their oppressors post slavery. We are resilient, we are vibrant and we are bursting at the seams with beautiful rich culture.

This week’s cocktail is dedicated to Haitian tradition, Krémas, aslo know in other cultures as Eggnog (without the egg, ew) or Coquito in latin cultures, is often prepared with family during the Christmas and New Year holiday, but we don’t follow the rules here. Because whyyyyy, Haitians have their own flow lol. Bloop! Sak gin la?! Let’s not forget our Spotify Playlist for this Friday, “Ayiti Cherie”.

What You’ll Need:

  • 1 can of evaporated milk

  • 1-2 cinnamon sticks

  • 2-3 Star Anise

  • 1/2 a lime

  • Lime zest

  • 1 can of sweetened condensed milk

  • Creamed Coconut

  • 1/2 cup creamed coconut

  • 3/4 cup of Haitian Rhum Barbancout

  • 1 1/2 teaspoon of almond essence

  • 1 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla essence

  • Nutmeg

  • A cup of ice

  • Strainer

1. Pour your evaporated milk into a pan on super low heat.

2. Add in your lime zest, cinnamon sticks and star anise. Stir occasionally.

3. After your spices have infused your milk, you’ll know it’s ready when your cinnamon is poppin’ it on a handstand. In other words, your cinnamon stick has loosened up and is open to conversation lol.

4. Strain your milk into a clean bowl. Add in your sweetened condensed milk and stir to mix thoroughly.

5. Add in your creamed coco into a blender followed by the rhum, then the vanilla and almond essence.

6. Squeeze in your lime and blend everything.

7. Mix in your blended ingredients into your bowl.

8. Serve with ice. If you’re lactose intolerant, I am so sorry in advance!
